ENOUGH!!!

For those of you that have emailed, or are about to email BLM, it is time to FLOOD THE FAX!

AMY LUEDERS, NV Director, FAX: 775-861-6601

GENE SEIDLITZ, Winnemucca district, FAX 775-623-1503

MIKE POOL, BLM Acting Director DC:

BLM Washington Office
1849 C Street NW, Rm. 5665
Washington DC 20240
Phone: 202-208-3801
Fax: 202-208-5242

BLM acts as if the COR and contractor are the “experts” and the rest of us are just “bleeding hearts.”

For THREE DAYS BLM has been running horses into the same ditch. Horses have fallen every single day. The contractor and COR are near enough to see it “live.” I can only see it on play back.

HOW can BLM make any assertion that the COR is acting in the “welfare” of the animals when they can’t either fill the ditch or move the jute?

ENOUGH! IT is time for a humane care POLICY that has ramifications for violation. NO MORE DISCRETION of the COR.

Feel free to use this pdf of postcards to mail or fax. PLEASE FLOOD THE FAX!

I am shaking so badly from the cold and ….  frustration that this agency fails and fails and fails to recognize that they are to PROTECT these animals not “yahoo” them. I am so frustrated that a SIMPLE task of a humane handling POLICY (not intention, not a “aw shucks, do it kinda nice so my inbox doesn’t flood” memo) is just BEYOND their ability to comprehend. Going to try to warm up. It is bitter cold and windy.

Help keep us in the field and the courtroom!

  1. Laura, shit hang in there! This is Bullshit all the way around! Please check email and twitter…trying to do some things that way! When is this Owyhee thing over? Can we stop em in court yet???

  2. I know it’s been said and done, ad nauseum, but this is Nevada’s own statute against exactly what these (insert filth here) are doing.

    There MUST be a way to enforce it!

    574.100. Overdriving, torturing, injuring or abandoning animals; failure to provide proper sustenance; penalty.
    1. A person shall not:
    (a) “Overdrive, overload, torture, cruelly beat or unjustifiably injure” (quotations added), maim, mutilate or kill an animal, whether belonging to himself or to another;
    (b) Deprive an animal of necessary sustenance, food or drink, or neglect or refuse to furnish it such sustenance or drink;
    (c) “Cause, procure or allow an animal to be overdriven, overloaded, tortured, cruelly beaten, or unjustifiably injured” (quotations added), maimed, mutilated or killed, or to be deprived of necessary food or drink;
    (d) “Instigate, engage in, or in any way further an act of cruelty to any animal, or any act tending to produce such cruelty” (quotations added); or
    (e) Abandon an animal in circumstances other than those prohibited in NRS 574.110.

    Simply because this is being performed on private land by Federal contractors under the purview of Federal agents does NOT make it ok. It is a violation. This is the law. Why is Law Enforcement being withheld?

  3. Laura is it enough to just send a fax with the three bullet points you have made above?

  4. We need to know in advance in the future so we can file a Writ of temporary protection, to buy some time and get some Cowboys out there to get them to another place where they are safe. Sounds crazy but they had Cattle drives didnt they. just take a Truck of hay and keep it Movin LOL

    • We do know in advance! Crazy idea but I love it…what we have been doing, isn’t working do we need to make another plan. The lawsuits (TRO etc.)helped and we need another one now! This is making me sick.

  5. Running Wild Horses to there death is Animal abuse period. There is no way to prevent this by the general Public, many have written letters, called DC, emailed and no one seems to hear our cries. The pain and suffering the animals are experiencing is beyond belief. Please in the NAMe of HUMANE Behavior…. is this clearly not Animal abuse? Photo’s do not lie this is a baby foal with its little legs in the air. Please email, fax call your state officials and flood the media with knowledge as to stop this abuse. I as a citizen of the USA do not want these people doing these round-ups BLM with approval from our elected and not elected officials to abuse OUR wild horses any longer. IS this the Example we are giving to the rest of the world and our children to see? WRite STOP ENOUGH Please in the name of compassion protect and respect all life especially the voiceless and helpless. Lets create change in our country please.

  6. The NV state law on humane treatment of these and any any animals should not be exempted/or ignored because it is the FEDS involved and it is on private land, the state law enforcement should enforce their laws. The laws cover all animals on all land and the way it has been explained to me many times is states can & do make state statutes more stringent that Federal laws but can not make statutes less stringent than Federal laws.

    • Brian I have tried to get State authorities involved for years. They turn it over to the Feds. (and that might be “just as well).
      I have been successful in Federal Court but that takes an heroic effort of writing and filing on the part of myself and the attorney and money. When we win people think I get money… we don’t. The last cases we won a bond had to be posted at the Courthouse and it cost more money.
      Wild horses are an extreme hotbed issue when it comes to jurisdiction…. Here is the million dollar question:
      The state manages horses by removing them and sending to auction. The majority go to slaughter. The state has entertained a state bill that would designate all wild horses as “feral” and deny them any water rights in the state.
      Do we really want to do anything that might create a precedent for the state of NV to manage even a single wild horse on Federal land?

  7. I have asked for some accounting on how all the funds are used and no one has ever responded to me. I am very curious as to where the donations go and what are they for?

    • Debra Trean as WHE has not gotten any correspondence from you I can only assume you are talking about BLM.
      If you are talking about WHE It is rather obvious where funds go. We are in the field on an almost constant basis and in the courtroom with two active cases and a third that won a TRO this last June. All advocacy orgs have expenses. Our expenses are bare bones. WHE actually keeps a partial list of accomplishments on our website so people can see exactly what we do: http://wildhorseeducation.org/accomplishments/

  9. Hollywood is alway reproducing old movies with current stars. Why doesn’t Robert Redford or another money magnet find the time and talent to get the “Misfits’ back on the screen with a few tweaks. Nothing has changed since then except the damage has gotten larger and the vehicles more powerful. Bring a few big name actors to the general public and hit them in the gut with the truth. Right now the slice of media pie is pretty small compared to what it will take to feed the Washington power hungry.

  10. Laura I will donate and “flood the fax” today. Just a reminder I sent some correspondence to your Carson City PO Box, so when you get back in town check it out. I am going to write the President again as I believe that it is time to go over the heads of the BLM. Keep up the good fight, you are amazing! Stay safe.
